After an Amazon leak, Ubisoft confirmed that we would see Watch Dogs Legion at E3 2019 and the publisher didn’t dissapoint, showcasing the first-ever Watch Dogs Legion gameplay trailer and it looks fantastic. Ubisoft also gave us a release date of 6 March 2020 and the gameplay trailer gives us more information about the upcoming hackathon action game and it sounds like Ubisoft has another winner on their hands.
Watch Dogs Legion takes place in a near-future, dystopian version of London. Society, politics and technology have changed and altered London’s fortunes and from the Watch Dogs Legion gameplay trailer, it is clear that the iconic city has fallen on tough times. as the government has given up on the city as the UK has become a surveillance state.
In Watch Dogs Legion, players will be able to control any NPC they choose. Every individual you meet in the open world of Watch Dogs Legion has a full set of animations, voice over, character traits and visuals that are generated and guided by various gameplay systems. It looks like the player will be assisted by an AI called Bagley and in the gameplay you can see the player looking for a drone expert to take over, before things go sideways and the player character dies. There’s also a choice to put this character to rest when you die, meaning permanent death to the NPC.
Ubisoft explains in a new blog post that:
That’s where things get really interesting. You can see that the player already has control of a dozen characters (called operatives) and these have various levels, meaning you will be able to level up each NPC you take over, from an old lady to an ex-military fighter. Instead of just playing with one person, you can recruit everyone to the resistance and build your legion.
Watch Dogs Legion is coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One and Stadia on 6 March 2020. The first Watch Dogs Legion gameplay trailer looks awesome and the whole idea about being able to play with any NPC you meet sounds astoundingly complex and intriguing.
