Now that we strongly suspect that a Venom sequel is in the works, more details about it are being revealed. One of the most exciting new developments surrounding a possible sequel is the announcement that Kelly Marcel – one of the screenwriters from the first Venom movie – will be penning the script for the unofficial follow-up Venom movie. Variety also reports that Tom Hardy is set to return to portray the role of Eddie Brock/Venom, with a few other cast members like Michele Williams also in talks to return for the Venom sequel.
According to reports, Kelly Marcel will get a “significant deal” for writing the script for the Venom sequel. Apart from writing the script, Kelly Marcel will also apparently be credited as the executive producer for the next Venom movie.
Venom was a huge success and grossed $855 million worldwide, so a Venom sequel is almost sure to happen. Although Sony hasn’t confirmed anything yet, Marvel announced that there are two Marvel/Sony movies slated for 2020. There are strong suspicions that the one movie is a Venom sequel and the other one is thought to be Jared Leto’s Morbius, the Living Vampire (not an official title for the movie) movie.
Woody Harrelson is also expected to return for the Venom sequel. A new director is yet to be confirmed for the possible Venom sequel as the first movie’s director, Ruben Fleischer, will apparently be busy filming on Zombieland 2.
Othe exciting details that have been revealed about a possible future Venom sequel comes from Venom co-writer, Jeff Pinker who hinted at a significant Spider-Man role in a future Venom movie.
Without revealing anything I’m not allowed to reveal. It is not impossible that in a future, upcoming Venom movie, Spider-Man will play a significant role.
As 2020 comes closer, an official announcement regarding a future Venom movie will probably be made sometime this year.
