Ubisoft shutting down online services for 20 older games

[media:51662]

There is a time for everything to come to an end, and with videogames, it is no different. For those who still play some old Ubisoft titles and make use of the online services for specific titles, I’m just going to rip the Band-Aid off right now. Ubisoft will be shutting down the online services for 20 of their older games for selected platforms on 11 November 2017.

The announcement comes from the Ubisoft support page, which explains that:

We are constantly assessing what’s needed to deliver the best possible online services for Ubisoft’s customers. Shuttering the services for some older games with smaller online audiences is a necessary part of this process, since it allows our IT and service staff to better focus on delivering great online experiences to the vast majority of customers who are playing newer, more popular titles.

Still, we don’t take the decision to retire services for an older Ubisoft game lightly, and we understand some of you may disappointed by this news. We are happy to have fans who are as committed as you have been to these brands and titles, and we hope that you'll find more recent or upcoming Ubisoft games about which you can be equally as passionate.” – Source

The 20 games in question

Below, find the 20 games that will have their online services shut down this November on various platforms:

  • Assassin's Creed Recollections – MAC and iOS
  • Call of Juarez 3: The Cartel – PC
  • ESPN Sport Connections – Wii U
  • Flashback Origins – PC
  • HAWX II – PC
  • I Am Alive – PS3 and Xbox 360
  • Just Dance 3 – Xbox 360
  • Just Dance 3 Greatest Hits – Xbox 360
  • Just Dance 4 – PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U
  • Just Dance Disney Party – Xbox 360 and Wii
  • Marvel Avenger Battle for Earth – Xbox 360 and Wii U
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands – PS3 and Xbox 360
  • Rabbids Land – Wii U
  • Rayman 3 HD – PS3 and Xbox 360
  • RUSE – PS3 and Xbox 360
  • Shaun White Skateboarding – PC, PS3 and Xbox 360
  • Shaun White Snowboard – PC
  • Smurfs 2 – PS3
  • Splinter Cell Blacklist – Wii U
  • Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013 – Wii U

As you can see, they are all very old games and there shouldn’t be too many gamers out there that are still making use of the online services for these titles. It is important to note that you will still be able to play these games in single player mode. Even so, seeing support for 20 games come to an end could always result in some nostalgia-induced sadness.

Do you still use only services to play any of these games? Let us know in the comment section below.
