Unless you’ve been living on a different planet for the past week, you would have probably heard about the latest controversy surrounding the world-famous YouTuber PewDiePie. My colleague Han shared her opinion about the debacle and the fallout thereof earlier this week, which you should definitely give a read.
Now, PewDiePie has responded to the controversy in a new video, which you can watch at the bottom of this article. In the response, PewDiePie directly addresses his use of the racial slur, saying that he is sorry if he “offended, hurt or disappointed anyone” and continues on by explaining that he wants to improve himself.

“You probably won’t believe me when I say this but whenever I go online and I hear other players use the same kind of language I did, I always find it extremely immature and stupid. And I hate how I now personally fed into that part of gaming as well. It was something I said in the heat of the moment. I said the worst word I could possibly think of.

The community will obviously still be divided by his actions and you have to remember that he has such a big following (57 million subscribers), which can influence a lot of people. PewDiePie himself said in the video that “being in the position I am, I should know better. I know I can’t keep messing up like this”. It definitely sounds like an apologetic response, but it remains to be seen how people will react to his response.
