Dota 2 is getting bombarded with negative reviews in protest for Half-Life 3

Dota 2 is an exceptional game and one of the greatest esports titles ever, evident by the spectacular The International 2017 and tournaments from the previous years. Be that as it may, a plethora of Steam users are targeting Dota 2 with negative reviews in protest of Half-Life 3, or Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

It can’t be a coincidence that this protest started shortly after Ex-Valve writer, Marc Laidlaw, shared plot summary ideas for Half-Life 2: Episode in some riveting fan-fiction. Now that Half-Life fans have a renewed interest in the series moving forward, or just realized that Half-Life 3 will most likely never happen, they are taking it out on Valve’s MOBA juggernaut.

The game’s recent user review rating has dropped from “Very Positive” to “Mixed”, with hundreds of negative reviews that are clearly in protest to Valve for a continuation of Gordon Freeman’s story. Read some of these reviews below, all of which give Dota 2 a Negative Rating:

  • “RIP Ep.3 and HL3. Thx Gaben.”
  • “We want Half-Life 3!!!”
  • “Bring to us that which we call Half Life 3, or there will be unforseen consequences….Wake up and smell the ashes Gabe”
  • “Dear Valve, I actually rather like this game, but if it's the reason why you're not making what the community wants because this makes more money along with Steam, then please, shut down Steam, shut down DOTA 2. I don't care. I just want people to finally get the game they wanted from you. A lot of people put their hopes on Half Life 3, and all you did was grab that hope and crush it.”
  • “Waste of time, toxic community, and no ep3”
  • “Half-Life 3 died for Dota 2 trading card game.”

That last quote might just have hit the nail on the head for many fans. When Valve announced their Dota 2 card game Artifact during The International 2017, fans were definitely not happy. One of our own readers, Peet Luckhoff, even said: “They misspelled ‘Artifact’. It should have been spelt ‘HL3’” and I think you will have to search far and wide to find fans who disagree with him.
