The Outer Worlds Difficulty Modes Detailed – Features Survival-Like Hardcore Mode

The Outer Worlds is due out later this year and it is looking like the Fallout-like game we have been craving for years. Obsidian Entertainment has been working hard to deliver a unique yet relatable RPG experience and its difficulty modes have been detailed thanks to a load of previews that went live over the weekend.

According to various media outlets, The Outer Worlds will feature four difficulty modes and two very different modes that will cater to all types of gamers.

These Outer Worlds difficulty modes will also change the game’s entire approach as hard will be extremely hard and the Supernova mode will be like the game’s survival mode.

Story Mode

This is Outer World’s basic mode where players can enjoy the story and play through the experience without ever feeling as if it is too hard. Enemies don’t deal too much damage and the easier combat and challenges let players focus on the story.

Normal Mode

This would be the mode most players will choose if they want to have the usual RPG experience. Obsidian claims this is the standard mode for players who just want to experience the game’s basic difficulty and play through the game once before tackling a harder mode.

Hard Mode

As the title states, this is the hard mode. Enemies deal more damage which means combat and encounters will require more planning and tactics. This is the hardest mode you can choose without the mechanics in the game changing.

Supernova

The Supernova mode is a very different experience from the rest we’ve covered. This mode is the equivalent to Fallout’s survival mode and sees enemies deal a great amount of damage, players need to eat drink and sleep to stay alive, companions permanently die, your body can be crippled and weapons and armour damage and break easily.

Supernova mode also limits fast travelling to your ship, you can only sleep indoors and manually save inside your ship too. You also cannot change to this difficulty after you choose another at the start of the game. You can reduce the difficulty to hard or normal but once done, you cannot go back.

Although Supernova mode is meant to be the hardest, it sounds more like the way the game is meant to be played. The harder challenge, tougher enemies and emphasis on eating and sleeping sounds right up our alley.

The Outer Worlds is releasing on 25 October 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC with the Switch version releasing at a later date.  What game mode will you be choosing first? Let us know down below.
