Last night, CD Projekt Red announced that the next Witcher game will release in October. Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a new adventure game by CD Projekt Red. It is set in The Witcher universe and will release on PC next month with console to follow. CD Projekt Red also announced the release details for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.
You might recall that CDPR said back in July that a new Witcher game is “possibly” in the works, but that it won’t be called Witcher 4.
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales
Thronebreaker isn’t the typical Witcher game. It is still a single-player adventure but combines narrative-driven exploration with puzzles and card battle mechanics.
The game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath, and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.
In Thronebreaker, players discover never-before-seen parts of The Witcher world. We also meet new characters in The Witcher universe, with “rich, multidimensional” back stories.
Gameplay mechanics include resource gathering and a skill-based battle system from GWENT: The Witcher Card Game. Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales releases on PC via GOG.com on October 23, and on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in December.
GWENT: The Witcher Card Game
After years in its Beta phase, Gwent also releases on October 23 for PC, and on December 4 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It remains free to play, with the full release including improvements and new features.
The biggest Gwent update, Homecoming, release with the full game and introduces cosmetics as well as gameplay changes. CDPR did a complete overhaul of Gwent to better represent the “dark and gritty feel of the world of The Witcher.” Other changes include a fully three-dimensional battlefield featuring two distinct rows, as well as new card mechanics.
You can watch the video below for more details about the Homecoming changes.
