The International 2019 Prize Pool Makes Esports History – R360 Million and Counting

Dota 2 Battle Pass

Last night, The International 2019 prize pool made esports history, becoming the biggest esports prize pool for a single tournament ever. The prize pool shot past the $25,532,177 mark (sitting at $25,630,800 at the time of writing) making it the biggest prize for a single tournament, as the Fortnite World Cup ($30 million) is technically two tournaments.

The prize pool for The International 2019 continues to grow by the minute and with it exceeding last year’s record, Battle Pass owners will also get 10,000 free Battle Points. Compared to The International 2018, the prize pool is roughly 25% ahead this year and that’s in part thanks to the great Battle Level and Treasure Bundle weekend deal.

Keep in mind that Valve gave $1.6 million as a base prize pool and since then, over $24 million has been raised with Battle Pass and related purchases. Also, only 25% of the Battle Pass and related purchases go into the prize pool, while Valve gets the other 75%, so GabeN should have enough money now to count to three (we can only hope). Check out a comparison graph (via Dota Prize Tracker) between The International 2019 and previous The International tournaments and how the prize pool shot up after the release of the Battle Level and Treasure Bundle.

The International 2019 prize pool

This massive prize pool milestone for The International 2019 was reached only 55 days after the Battle Pass went live and since the prize pool only stops growing at the end of August 2019, there is no doubt that it will break that magical $30 million mark. To put things in a local perspective, the prize pool is already at a mind-blowing R360 million and it is climbing every minute.

Keep in mind that the Immortal Treasure II, Immortal Treasure III as well as the exclusive Battle Pass game mode have not been released at the time of writing and that these will also give the prize pool another massive spike.
