Rumours about the GeForce GTX 1160 Ti has been making the rounds for quite some time now. Back in January, benchmarks for the GPU even leaked, showcasing some decent performance, The GeForce GTX 1160 Ti is reportedly still based on the Turing architecture used in the GeForce RTX Series, but without the Ray Tracing and Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) features. Now, images of the GeForce GTX 1160 Ti have leaked, alongside a release date for the yet-to-be-announced GPU.
As reported by VideoCardz, the GeForce GTX 1160 Ti could release next week, on 22 February 2019. The card will feature a TU116-400 GPU with 1536 CUDA cores and 6GB of GDDR6, and there could be a non-Ti version releasing a bit later as well. Before we get to the leaked images, one even showing a naked GPU comparison that suggests it will come without Tensor cores, one has to wonder why NVIDIA would release such a card without the next-gen features.
One issue is the price of the RTX cards are pretty insane right now, so they aren’t selling as anticipated. NVIDIA recently explained that:
These products deliver a revolutionary leap in performance and innovation with real-time ray tracing and AI, but some customers may have delayed their purchase while waiting for lower price points and further demonstrations of RTX technology in actual games.
That makes a lot of sense if you ask me and there is a good possibility that the GeForce GTX 1160 Ti is not only real, but it is a necessary step for NVIDIA to take. Check out some leaked images (via VideoCardz) of the MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti VENTUS XS below and note on the first one that the TU116-400 GPU in the GTX 1660 Ti has a noticeably smaller die than the TU106-400-A1 used in the RTX 2060 and 2070 cards.
Are you in the market for a Turing-based GPU without the RTX features and what do you hope the pricing on such a card will be? Let us know in the comment section below.
