The internet has been flooded with memes and controversy over the past few days after actress Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel for the upcoming Disney’s The Little Mermaid Live-Action remake. Terry Crews is the cherry on top of this all making a rather unpleasant situation better.
Of course, Halle Bailey, being not white has people losing their minds to how Disney can do such a thing but that is for another day.
The point is, the internet has been joking about Disney’s casting decisions with all sorts of memes that revolve around people being put in roles they obviously don’t “fit” into. My favourite;

With all this going on, Terry Crews has jumped on the bandwagon and petitioned himself to play the role of King Triton and people are agreeing with him (What?).
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine and former NFL player turned TV host and actor publicly posted an image of him under the sea (under the sea – Darling it’s better
Down where it’s wetter Take it from me), where he is posing as King Triton in front of Atlantica.

The hashtag #ArielsGotTerry and #AmericasGotTerry has since begun trending on Twitter where users have been posting their own rendition of Terry Crews as King Triton. The best one so far is from BossLogic;

But in all honesty, he might give the role the mix between serious and fun which right now, seems great. Disney is clearly not following its animation so the doors are open for all sorts of things to happen.
The Little Mermaid is not the only film to be taking a different approach as Disney’s Mulan is said to be cutting out Mushu the Dragon in place of a real person. You can watch the teaser trailer for the film here but don’t expect to see anything resembling the animation. Not yet anyway.
