Yesterday, I reported on a leaked that seemed very legitimate, as Xbox Germany seemingly let it slip that the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake would be heading to other platforms as well, specifically the Xbox One. Xbox Germany’s communications and social lead, Maxi Graff, then apologized for the slip, so the images making the rounds on the internet weren’t fake. Well, Square Enix have now come out to crush the hopes for the game releasing on anything but the PS4.
In a statement to IGN, Square Enix replied to this leak, explaining that:
This short and not-so-sweet statement means that we won’t see the Final Fantasy VII Remake coming to Xbox One or other platforms on 3 March 2020 and the publisher has no plans for other platforms. However, one has to wonder what kind of mistake Xbox Germany made then.
Was it a complete mistake without any knowledge of Final Fantasy VII Remake possibly coming to the Xbox One and other platforms, or was it an issue of timing? In the very first reveal video for the game during Sony’s 2015 E3 Press Conference, the video said “play it first on PS4” and that led many to believe that the game will be a timed PS4 exclusive, so it could be possible that the Xbox Germany team does have some inside knowledge and just go the date wrong, jumping the gun.
However, at the time of writing, the only confirmed platform for the game is the PS4 and that isn’t likely to change any time soon thanks to the statement by Square Enix.
