Sonic Movie Delayed to February 2020 so They Can Fix Sonic

Sonic The Hedgehog

The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film will not make its November 2019 release after being delayed in order to fix the CGI character. The movie has recieved widespread backlash since the teaser trailer showcased an ugly and questionable Sonic character design.

Instead of releasing in November 2019, the film will now debut on 14 February 2020. Film director Jeff Fowler announced the new date on Twitter a few weeks after revealing the team would be redesigning Sonic.

Redesigning a CGI character without touching the real actors is quite a challenge and there was no doubt a time constraint in place. The three months will give the team some extra time to fix a lot that is wrong with Sonic from his eyes to his mouth and well, his entire body and every part of it.

Jeff also added “#novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthismovie” to his tweet assuring fans that the VFX artists would not be overworked and abused during this time – perhaps what led to the delay in the first place.

Fowler and his team have their work cut out for them as they will now need to design a brand new Sonic model and incorporate it into the entire film while keeping it all feeling natural. Moviegoers will no doubt be watching for any CGI mishaps when they watch the film next year.

It will be a few months before we get to see the new Sonic model in action. It will take time before the team cooks up a trailer showcasing the new version.

Sonic the Hedgehog is set for release in cinemas worldwide on 14 February 2020.
