DC’s Shazam is set to make its cinematic debut in April 2019 and definitely looks to be one of the less serious superhero movies to come from Warner Bros. and DC Comics in a while. A new teaser trailer shows the lighter side of being a superhero, with this Shazam (portrayed by Zachary Levi) even poking fun at the 2008 The Dark Knight movie, which centred around DC’s Batman (portrayed by Christian Bale).
In the new promotional teaser for the upcoming movie, we’re given a sneak peek at what it would be like for a 14-year-old to be given adult abilities and superpowers. It’s definitely a more fun way for a superhero’s back story to be told, with the young Shazam aka Billy Baston (portrayed by Asher Angel) trying to buy beer and build a cool fortress.
If you pay close attention to the new promotional teaser, you can see it even poking fun at a popular tagline – “WHY SO SERIOUS?!” – which was used by Heath Ledger’s The Joker in The Dark Knight movie. Words appear during the new promo, proclaiming that Shazam is “NOT SO SERIOUS“. See for yourself in the promotional teaser below.
On a more serious side, we’re also given a look at the villain in the upcoming Shazam movie in the new promotional teaser. Mark Strong portrays the role of villain, Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, in the new movie. In the teaser we’re given a glimpse at how Dr. Sivana and Shazam have an electrifying battle, that’ll probably look epic in the upcoming movie.
DC is known for producing more serious superheroes. So, Shazam is a breath of fresh air and it’s exciting that this superhero is getting his own standalone movie.
The movie was directed by David F. Sandberg. Other stars to join the cast include Djimon Hounsou as The Wizard, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, and Grace Fulton as Bromfield.
