After postponing the Chinese launch of the Samsung Galaxy Fold devices this morning, Samsung has now officially delayed the Samsung Galaxy Fold launch worldwide.
Samsung South Africa was meant to host a Galaxy Fold media event tomorrow night, alongside the new 8K QLED TV, in Johanessburg where the tech giant was expected to show off the device as well as reveal the Samsung Galaxy Fold South African price and release date. This is no longer the case. Samsung South Africa has informed me that the event will no longer feature the Galaxy Fold at all and just focus on the 8K QLED TV range.
In a press release I recieved from Samsung’s PR lead, the company outlined the recent drama surrounding the Galaxy Fold’s durability. Over the past few days, reviewers all around the world have been reporting that the phones are breaking and not lasting more than a few days of use.
Samsung spoke out about the recent events saying that the reports “showed us how the device needs further improvements that could ensure the best possible user experience.” Samsung went on to explain that in order to fully evaluate the feedback recieved from the media, they have decided to delay the release of the Galaxy Fold.
We plan to announce the release date in the coming weeks. Initial findings from the inspection of reported issues on the display showed that they could be associated with impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge. There was also an instance where substances found inside the device affected the display performance. We will take measures to strengthen the display protection. We will also enhance the guidance on care and use of the display including the protective layer so that our customers get the most out of their Galaxy Fold.
