Respawn Apologizes For Insulting The Apex Legends Community

New Apex Legends Character

Earlier this week, Respawn Entertainment got themselves into some seriously hot water when they called the Apex Legends community a bunch of “asshats” and “freeloaders” and “dicks” after a questions and answers post on Reddit went horribly wrong. The Apex Legends community didn’t like the loot box system in the Iron Crown Collection event and showed their frustration but when Respawn made these comments to the community, things really got out of hand.

Now, Respawn Entertainment’s CEO, Vince Zampella, has taken to his personal Twitter account to apologise for the actions of the Respawn employees who took things too far by calling the Apex Legends community “asshats” and other names.

First off, Vince Zampella explains that some of the people at Respawn crossed a line and that they developer apologizes for the fans that have been offended. Mr Zampella went on to explain that this is not how Respawn wants to be represented. Respawn wants an open and healthy relationship with the Apex Legends community and explains that some developers even received death threats. You can read the entire message from Vince Zampella below.

On Friday, we gave Apex fans an update on how we were changing the Iron Crown event. Some of the team then joined a discussion with our community on Reddit, and things got to a pretty bad place. Some of our folks crossed a line with their comments, and that’s not how we want Respawn o be represented. I apologize to any of our fans that were offended. I will always stand behind the team here at Respawn and support them on speaking out against some of the toxic and nasty comments being directed at them, including everything from death threats to comments aimed at their family and loved ones.

But we shouldn’t contribute to it when we do comment, and add to the very thing we want to prevent. We need to lead by example. Last week we didn’t do that, and going forward we will be better. Having an open, healthy relationship with our community is incredibly important to all of us at Respawn.

It is sometimes hard to keep your cool especially when people throw nasty comments at you, but if Respawn wants to have a good relationship with the Apex Legends community, then calling them names and reacting to foul messages might not be the best move. Hopefully, things will calm down and the community will accept Respawn’s apology.
