According to the Global Weekly Chart, Red Dead Redemption 2 sold 6,233,893 copies within just two days and breaking down those numbers reveals that 4,610,964 units were PS4 and 1,622,929 were on Xbox One. PS4 sales account for 74% of the overall units sold with Xbox One sitting at 26%.
According to the regional sales, Red Dead Redemption 2 sold the best in Europe with 2,717,143 units sold which accounts to 44% of the sales. The US sits at 35% with 2,308,758, and Japan at 2% with 133,731. The UK alone sold 601,377 units, Germany sold 449,034 and France 419,731.
Rockstar revealed that the game actually sold 17 million units within the first eight days of which most of them were actually digital copies. When comparing the game to the first one, Red Dead Redemption only sold 6,57 million units over its entire lifetime at retail on PS3 and 6,45 million units on Xbox 360. The game sold 13,02 million units at retail in total. Considering Red Dead Redemption 2 was already sitting at the PS3’s entire retail sales of the first game within two days is a big deal. 17 million units at retail within eight days is a big accomplishment and considering the game has been out for almost three weeks already, we cannot imagine what those numbers are like now.
With the festive season approaching, the sales will no doubt spike even more and we are sure Rockstar will have some impressive numbers to show off in the coming year.
