2019 is off to a great start for Sony’s cross-platform play feature. In late 2018, the console giant announced that they would be making it possible to play on PS4 against other platform gamers on specific games. One of those games is Rocket League and the feature is now available. The Rocket League cross-platform play support means PS4 gamers can now play against PC, Xbox One and Switch.
Psyonix announced that the feature is still in beta but it is available for everyone. The beta feature supports all available game modes including casual, competitive and other online modes. According to Psyonix, the feature is enabled by default but you can double check to see it if it turned on by heading to the following settings.
… head to the “Main Menu,” select “Options” and then make sure the “Cross-Platform Play” box is checked in the ”Gameplay” tab. And that’s all there is to it. You are now ready to play against gamers on other platforms across the world!
Psyonix announced that they still have plans to release a “partner up with friends” feature that lets you play with your fellow Rocket League friends even if they are on a different platform. This will roll out in the next few weeks. You can, however, use the game’s built-in private match feature to play with friends on other platforms by doing the following:
Should you want to play with friends on other platforms before cross-platform parties release, however, you can! Just select ”Play” from the ”Main Menu,” then ”Private Match,” followed by ”Create” or ”Join Private Match,” and you’re set from there.
Cross-platform play is a great feature and it is nice to see Sony opening up to the possibility of joining other platforms together on one server. Hopefully there are more to come.
