It’s been just over a year since Marvel and Square Enix announced The Avengers Project. For fans of the Marvel universe, this could be the game we’ve all been waiting for, as it is being developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Eidos- Montréal. However, any information about the game has been scarce since the original announcement and with the hype for Avengers: Infinity War reaching critical mass after the new Super Bowl trailer, we need something about The Avengers Project, right?
Well, Marvel has revealed a couple of new things about the game in a recent post. First up, tidbits of information were shared about the game, namely that it will feature a “completely new and original story”, so you won’t be playing through the films’ stories or anything like that. Marvel also said that it will be a “universe gamers can play in for years to come”, which sounds a bit like an MMO if you ask me, or at least have some kind of grind mechanics/endgame content. Then, the project will, of course, be “jammed pack with characters, environments, and iconic moments” that Marvel says will thrill the fans.
Secondly, it looks like the development team is being bolstered, as Marvel noted that in January alone, 15 top industry veterans joined the project, including the likes of former Naughty Dog Creative Director, Shaun Escayg and industry veteran, Stephen Barry, from EA and Visceral Games. Developers Assemble!
The Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics, Ron Rosenberg, had this to say:
“We hired fifteen world-renowned industry veterans, spanning production leadership, animation, design, art and engineering, who have previously worked on games such as Batman: Arkham Origins, Dead Space, Star Wars: Battlefront and many more.
Their AAA experience adds to an already deep roster, making us well-positioned to deliver on the ambitious goals we’ve set for ourselves with The Avengers project. It’s a stellar addition
With such a talented team and arguably the greatest superhero IP ever, I feel confident that the game will be great and that it could definitely be the Avengers game fans have been waiting for all this time.
