While some Dota 2 fans might still be stunned due to OG’s miracle run and victory at The International 2018, I’m one of those who still gets nerd chills every time I think about the final three days and everything that transpired. No matter if you are stunned, flabbergasted or maybe even indifferent, the show must go on and there is a lot of Dota 2 to look forward to.
Valve announced the first Major of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2018-2019 season which will be hosted by PGL. It’s called the Kuala Lumpur Major and it will be held in Malaysia at the spectacular Axiata Arena. The first Major of the season is quite important as it can set the tone and give teams some momentum going forward if they win or do well. Not to mention there is also a prize pool of $1 million to fight for, which is R15.4 million if you were wondering.
A total of sixteen teams will compete at the Kuala Lumpur Major, but first, open and closed qualifiers need to take place and the qualifiers might be much closer than you think. Check out the tournament schedule below:
- Open Qualifiers: 10-15 September
- Closed Qualifiers: 16-21 September
- Group Stage: 9-10 November
- Playoffs: 11-18 November
- Playoffs (assuming semis and finals): 16-18 November at the Axiata Arena
At the time of writing, not one team that will be competing at the Major has been revealed. That’s because things are changing a little as there will be no direct invites and all 16 teams will need to qualify for their spot. Further, all of the 16 teams will earn some DPC points which means that qualifying for a Major (or even a Minor) is now even more important.
The top eight DPC teams, at the end of the season, will get a direct invite to The International 2019, which in case you missed it, will take place in China next year.
Are you excited for the first Major of the 2018-2019 DPC and which teams do you hope to see qualify? Let us know in the comment section below.
