We were excited to hear that the awesome ARPG by Grinding Gear Games, Path of Exile, would finally be coming to the PS4 this year. It has been a long time coming, with the game releasing on PC back in 2013 and on Xbox One in 2017. This news really did help swallow the Diablo: Immortal pill for PS4 owners out there. Unfortunately, Path of Exile has been delayed until 2019.
Path of Exile being delayed isn’t the end of the world. However, it would have been awesome play a great ARPG on PS4 this holiday season. The game will now release on the PS4 in early February according to the developer. Path of Exile was supposed to release on the PS4 close to the launch of the game’s latest expansion on 7 December. For those who always have depleted gaming budgets in the holiday season, this would have also been perfect, as the game is free-to-play.
On the official Path of Exile forums, Grinding Gear Games explained the delay and apologized to fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game’s release on PS4. After playing the PC version on and off for years, I can tell you one thing, these developers are committed and have made countless improvements to the game. Therefore, their explanation does make a lot of sense and although it stings that we won’t be able to enter the world of Wraeclast this year, we definitely have something to look forward to. Checkout the full explanation by Grinding Gear Games below.
When we announced Path of Exile for PlayStation 4 earlier this month, we indicated we were aiming for a December release. Unfortunately, we have had to revise this to early February. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience this causes because we know there are many players looking forward to this release.
We underestimated the amount of work it would take to finish the certification process during the busy Christmas period. While we hope to have everything ready in January, we feel a lot more comfortable promising early February as a target release window. This will also give us time to work on game performance/frame rate, which we feel could be improved before release.
Again, we’re very sorry about this. We understand that many PlayStation users were keen to play Betrayal over Christmas and have been eagerly awaiting release date news. We promise that Path of Exile will be awesome on PlayStation 4 when it is released early next year.
