What Men Want Continues To Dominate On The SA Box Office Top 10

What Men Want

The South African box office is still booming with awesome movies to catch on the top 10. This week’s number one, What Men Want, holds the top spot for the second week in a row, so it might be time to go check it out at the cinemas. How To Train Your Dragon also continues to hold on to the second place for the second week in a row. But there are also a few new movies to look out for other than What Men Want.

Before we get to the top 10 movies, Bohemian Rhapsody is currently still the highest grossing movie on the South African box office circuit, grossing R 41 876 414 to date.

Here are the top 10 movies you can enjoy at the South African cinemas right now.

10. Princess and the Dragon

Like What Men Want, this movie has been on the South African top 10 at the box office for two weeks now. Princess and the Dragon is an animation movie which follows the adventure of Princess Barbara. On her 7th birthday, she comes across a magical book, which transports her to an enchanted world.

9. Bohemian Rhapsody

Continuing its box office reign. This movie starring Rami Malek as Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury is a must-see before it leaves the cinemas circuit.

8. Green Book

Winner of this year’s Best Picture, Green Book is one of the Oscar winners you have to check out before it leaves the cinema circuit. It stars Viggo Mortensen, who was nominated for Best Actor (Rami Malek won for his performance as Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody). The movie also stars Mahershala Ali as Don Shirley, who took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role.

7. Little Italy

Making its top 10 debut, Little Italy is a romantic comedy starring Emma Roberts and Hayden Christensen. The movie was directed by Donald Petrie and follows the story of two pizzeria owners’ children who grew up in “Little Italy” in Toronto, USA.

6. The Upside

Directed by Neil Burger, this comedy starring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston follows the funny tale of an unlikely friendship.

5. Alita: Battle Angel

Unlike What Men Want, Alita: Battle Angel never managed to get to the top of the South African box office and has been slowly coming down every week since its number two debut.

4. LEGO Movie 2

Not managing to make a massively impressive box office debut, this sequel stars Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, and Will Arnett promises to be a laugh and fun for the whole family.

3. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral

Another new entry in the box office that didn’t manage to beat What Men Want, is the new Tyler Perry movie. In Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral the family’s back together, but things are not what they seem and soon turns into a hilarious madness. The movie sees Tyler Perry reprising his role as Madea and Cassi Davis and Patrice Lovely join the cast, too.

2. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Holding onto its number 2 spot for the second week in a row, and a former top spot holder, the third instalment of How To Train Your Dragon is fire at the box office. Dean DeBlois returns to direct, with Jay Baruchel returning to voice Hiccup and American Ferrera voices the role of Astrid.

1. What Men Want

This gender-swap remake of the 2000 movie What Women Want, stars Taraji P. Henson and Tracy Morgan.
