We’ve seen a lot of hints and Easter Eggs in Ubisoft’s titles about Splinter Cell and protagonist Sam Fisher over the years. However, an actual new game in the franchise hasn’t been confirmed yet and fans have been waiting since Splinter Cell: Blacklist released back in 2013 for a new title. Ubisoft pushes out new games in their franchises such as Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed nearly every year, which makes us wonder where Splinter Cell is. Thankfully, it seems the franchise isn’t dead after all and we will see something in the future.
Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, spoke in a new interview with IGN about the franchise and basically confirmed that Ubisoft still has plans for the franchise. First off, Mr Guillemot spoke about why the franchise has been dormant for such a long time, explaining that: “When you create a game, you have to make sure you come with something different enough from what you did before.”
Mr Guillemot further explained that when Blacklist released, there was a very vocal fanbase asking to “not change this” or “don’t do that”. This made the team a bit anxious and it could be a reason we haven’t seen a new game in the franchise just yet. However, we will definitely see something in the future, as Mr Guillemot explains:
Now, there are some people looking at, ah, the brand, taking care of the brand. So at some point, you will see something. I can’t say more than that.
Sure, that doesn’t say much and it might still be a long time before we see a new Splinter Cell game. However, fans of the franchise can rest assured that sometime in the future, we will have a new game.
