Since Microsoft bought Obsidian earlier this year, one would think that their next project would be an Xbox exclusive. However, that is not the case and Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds has been announced for PC, PS4 and Xbox One at The Game Awards 2018. Obsidian, in case you didn’t know, is the creators of arguably one of the best Fallout titles ever, New Vegas. The Outer Worlds might look a bit like a Sci-Fi Fallout in space and honestly, it looks amazing.
To be more specific, The Outer Worlds is a Sci-Fi RPG developed by Obsidian and Private Division. Obsidian is doing what they do best here and creating an open-world, story-driven RPG that left me in awe after I watched the first trailer (which you can check out at the bottom of this article) over and over again.
You play as a colonist in the first-person perspective, meeting interesting characters as you explore space. An evil corporation seems to be at the heart of a conspiracy but it is a little too early to tell. What we can say for certain is that it has that signature first-person shooter combat that you will recognize from recent Fallout titles.
The Outer World also features some awesome facial animations shown off in the trailer where some characters talk to the player and react to the player pulling out a weapon. Best of all, the player will determine how the story plays out, meeting various factions along the way.
The Outer Worlds official description reads:
In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.
The Outer Worlds doesn’t have an official release date yet, but this is a game that isn’t lightyears away, as the game is set to release sometime in 2019. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think about The Outer Worlds in the comment section.
