Director of Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Vows to Make Sonic Look Better After the Internet Freaked

Sonic the Hedgehog movie

The first trailer for the live-action adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog movie was shared this week by Paramount Pictures. The trailer was the first opportunity for the world to see Sonic in his live-action form, after months of his look being teased. However, this iconic SEGA character’s live-action appearance pissed off the entire Internet, and director, Jeff Fowler has heard the outcry.

The director for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has promised fans that the look of Sonic will be changed, and it will be changed fast.

The main concerns with Sonic’s look in the first trailer were that his proportions didn’t work well in live-action form. His realistic appearance, which included human-looking teeth, freaked fans of the franchise out. His eyes also didn’t represent Sonic’s look well. Instead of looking like a cute, spunky racing hedgehog, he looked like something children might have nightmares about.

We’re going to have to wait and see how Sonic gets changed. Until then, have a look at what digital artist, Edward Pun did to rework the character (this is his own work and not a representation of what changes are coming to the character).

The reworked Sonic looks better in my opinion. The eyes are bigger, cuter, and sharper like Sonic’s usually is. The proportioning also looks better. Sonic’s legs have been made shorter and less human-like. His chest seems to have been puffed up a bit too. His hands resemble a cartoon’s big hands in this representation and aren’t weirdly humanoid like the movie version.

No news on those teeth though. Have a look at the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie below, but be prepared to feel a little awkward.

Are you keen on Sonic’s look or are you are freaked out as the rest of the world? The movie releases in cinemas on 08 November 2019.
