Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Gets First Official Teaser

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie is set to release on 8 November 2019 with Ben Schwartz (from Parks and Recreation) as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog and the iconic Jim Carrey as Sonic’s nemesis Dr. Ivo Robotnik. The film was initially scheduled to release in 2018 with Sony Columbia Pictures as the distributor but Paramount Pictures acquired the rights after a turnaround. The production team remained mostly the same with Jeff Fowler making his debut as Director.

Yesterday, the first official teaser poster for Sonic the Hedgehog Movie released via IGN.

In Sonic the Hedgehog Movie our super fast blue hedgehog battles his old enemy, Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, over some reason. All we know so far about the movie is that it is set in San Francisco and that Sonic ran into some kind of trouble with the government. He is aided by Tom Wachowski (played by James Marsden from Westworld), a small-town sheriff who travels to San Francisco. A photo on IMDb shows that the movie will have references to Green Hill Zone, the most famous level in the Sonic video games franchise.

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie takes Sonic from his cartoon setting to the real world, and as such he has undergone some changes. For one thing, he has a furry coat and sexy red sneakers, much like anyone would wear. IGN interviewed the production team and apparently the most significant change is to Sonic’s eyes. We don’t have any details, only that “He’s not going to feel like a Pixar character,” but more like a character from the real world. However “real” a blue hedgehog can look in the real world. Sonic’s new appearance will no doubt be a point of contention for fans of the series.

The most important thing about Sonic is, of course, his speed, and giving that an authentic look has been one of the most important decisions for Jeff Fowler.

The first thing you need to do is put limits on it. If you can do anything, nothing is special. For me, it’s always about keeping it grounded and keeping it realistic. We had some time to figure out the speed: What it looks like, what it feels like for a character to do that and how it relates to our world.

Fowler also explained that Sonic’s speed evolves over time as his ability isn’t fully developed at the beginning of the movie. According to Fowler, they’re doing it in a way viewers have “probably never seen before in trying to represent speed” and they’re giving us a hint in the teaser poster. He also confirmed that part of the story won’t take place on Earth, and that there will be a lot of Easter eggs in the movie.
