Sometimes you wake up in the morning and don’t really appreciate what you have. As gamers, we get so much joy from playing a new game and we all know how hyped everyone can get. Arguably the biggest game to release before the end of this year is Red Dead Redemption 2 and we are all feeling the excitement. However, some gamers will never be able to play Rockstar’s next masterpiece. Enter Jurian from the Netherlands, a terminally ill gamer who suffers from Neurofibromatosis type 2, which is a rare hereditary disease.
Jurian is in the final weeks of his life after fighting the disease for nearly 15 years. Just like many other gamers out there, Jurian was waiting in suspense for Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2, which only releases on 26 October.
The wish of a terminally ill gamer
Developer Rockstar Games made Jurian’s wish come true and let the terminally ill gamer a chance to play Red Dead Redemption 2. This heart-warming news comes from a report by Gamersnet (via Google Translate). Jurian reportedly contacted them on Facebook to share his story with the world. Read his story below.
Unfortunately, I am in the last weeks of my life. I am finished. Since 2004 I have been fighting a chronic rare disease called Neurofibromatosis Type 2. Where there are many “benign” tumors in my body. I survived for a long time, but I’ve had enough of it now.
As I was waiting in suspense for Red Dead Redemption 2, my father got in touch with the publisher, if they had a copy earlier as an exception. Rockstar Netherlands wanted to give it but they were not allowed to, so they had contact with the head office, who quickly arranged something beautiful for me. At the end of the week, two employees of Rockstar Nederland came to my house and gave me a private demonstration of the game. After an afternoon of playing, they unfortunately took the game again.
Since I recently read an article about a similar case with Nintendo, I wanted to tell you. Since Rockstar has also done something beautiful.
It is, without a doubt a beautiful sentiment from Rockstar. Keep in mind that Rockstar didn’t announce this and that the gamer wanted to share the story.
Our thoughts go out to Jurian and his family in these extremely difficult times ahead. I, for one, hope that Rockstar memorializes Jurian in the game in some way, be it a statue or a character, but we will have to wait and see.
