New PS4 Update Finally Adds Remote Play For iOS And More

Remote Play

The Remote Play feature for the PlayStation 4 has just received a major update, which now allows players to remotely play PS4 games from an iOS device. When players now update their PS4 consoles with version 6.50 of the PlayStation firmware, they will be able to take advantage of this new, upgraded Remote Play feature.

Remote Play was first announced in 2013. Back then, the feature allowed players to stream their PS4 games from their console to their PS Vita (which has now been officially discontinued). By 2016, the feature was available for Mac and Windows through apps. There’s an exclusive Android app for the feature that’s available only for Sony Xperia.

How Does Remote Pay For iOS Devices Work?

Once you’ve installed the new updated firmware on your PS4 console, you will need to download the Remote Play app for your iOS device from the App Store. You also need a PlayStation Network account to make use of the new feature.

You will need an iPhone 7 or higher model, a sixth-gen iPad or higher model or a second-gen iPad Pro or higher. The iOS device you wish to use needs to have iOS 12.1 or later installed on it.

Games need to be compatible to take advantage of this new feature. Also, the iOS device and your PS4 console have to be connected over the same Wi-Fi. The feature cannot be used over a mobile network, and requires a Wi-Fi connection. Once both devices are connected, you can pair them to start using the Remote Play feature.

The new feature doesn’t allow you to connect your DualShock 4 controller to your iOS device. Rather, the feature lets you use the onscreen controllers on your iOS device to control the game you’re playing through your PS4 console.

Other than bringing Remote Play to iOS devices, the new 6.50 version of PS4 firmware also adds the ability to remap some of the buttons on your PS4 controller. You’re now able to choose whether you want the X button or the O button as the ENTER button.
