As we get closer and closer to 26 October when Red Dead Redemption 2 releases, there’s no doubt we will learn more about Rockstar’s next open-world western. We all know the game’s file size will be massive, but how will that translate into campaign length? Well, Rockstar’s Dan Houser seems to have spilt the beans, revealing the Red Dead Redemption 2 campaign length.
In an interview with Vulture, Dan Houser revealed that the campaign is roughly 60 hours long. Further, the acting for the story mode is complete. It was initially 65 hours but five of those were cut. The five hours that were cut are due to Rockstar removing one of the protagonist’s love interests as they decided that one of them didn’t work. Therefore, whole missions won’t make it to the game, as Mr Houser explains:
They were never going to work technically or be quite slick enough, or they felt superfluous. We removed a mission on a train where you had to deal with bounty hunters, because it was fun at first, but then it wasn’t. This part of the process is always about compromise and horse trading. Everyone always loses bits of the game they love.
60 hours is one huge experience already, but you also have to take into account that you can do a tonne of other things instead of just following the story. Fishing, hunting or just messing about in the large open world will surely make the gameplay time much longer. Not to mention Red Dead Online, which you can basically play forever if GTA Online’s longevity is anything to go by.
As always, keep in mind that some players might finish the game faster as speed runs are a real thing. I, for one, will be taking my time with the game that Rockstar has been working so hard on. Which reminds me, Dan Houser revealed that they have been working 100 hours a week to finish up the game.
What do you think about the Red Dead Redemption 2 campaign length? Will you be jumping into the boots of Arthur Morgan later this month? Let us know in the comment section.
