PUBG test servers get multiple spawn locations and new anti-cheat measure

The PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds team is currently testing very important features for the PC version. If these prove successful it will roll out to the live servers. The first big change relates to spawning points, and the second is an improved anti-cheat measure on the PUBG test servers.

“We are planning to enhance the performance by adjusting some aspects of the game without impacting the gameplay in any conceivably negative way, explains the PUBG dev team. “When the changes on the test servers are evaluated to be stable, they will be applied to the live servers. The time for the live server update will be announced later.”

As you well know, every PUBG player spawns in the exact same location on the map as they wait for the round to begin. The problem with this is a massive drop in performance caused by the interaction between players as they wait for the match to begin. 100 Impatient gamers in a small space can never be a good thing, (it reminds me of that time in TF2 when we gathered on the roof of the Badlands building with 24 players and 24 sentries – the server crashed).

The answer to the problem is obvious – multiple spawn locations. According to the PUBG dev team, they have already tested this, and the result is an improved performance on the servers and on the player’s side.

Secondly, it’s no secret that PUBG suffers from a serious cheater problem. So much so, that it has led to 120 arrests in China. Bluehole is committed to change things around, and is (again), testing a new anti-cheat measure. They didn’t elaborate on the changes, and only issued a warning that some players might experience their game crashing. If that happens to you, make sure to report it here.

“We will also be testing a new security (anti-cheat) measure that is still under development but we want to start gathering some data regarding it’s stability and compatibility,” reads the announcement. “Some PCs may experience compatibility issues during this test, which may cause crashes when starting the game.”

Patch notes:

  • Gameplay: Introduced multiple pre-match starting areas on both maps in order to optimize the server and game client performance
  • Gameplay: Removed weapons on starting island before the match start
  • Language: Applied new Russian, Japanese and Chinese (simplified/traditional) fonts
  • Bug fixes: Fixed the issue where players were able to slide-jump from prone

As with the previous anti-cheat measure announcement, PUBG players are still insisting that Bluehole region lock China. The Steam announcement for patch 3 is filled with page after page of demands in that regard.
