PlayStation Plus ends the year with one of the best horror games you’ll ever play, namely SOMA, as well as Onrush, a racing game with a twist. The PlayStation Plus December games all unlock on December 4. Check out all the games that PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to in December.
PlayStation 4 | SOMA
SOMA is both a horror title and philosophical game. On the surface, it’s a game about escaping an underwater research facility, but if you descend into its depths, it takes you on a journey to confront your ideas of identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human. It also includes puzzles, a strong story, and fascinating characters. The player finds himself in the PATHOS-II, a research facility involved in nefarious activities. The station is in a state of disrepair and surrounded by machines that have developed consciousness.
The developer, Frictional Games is best known for their Amnesia series, so players can expect a certain level of horror from the game. However, with SOMA, Frictional Games deliberately placed a greater emphasis on the story and narrative, and according to feedback from both critics and fans, they succeeded brilliantly.
PlayStation 4 | Onrush
Onrush released in June this year and was developed by Codemasters. You can play it in single-player or multiplayer, but it is essentially a team-based racing game. It offers a twist in the genre as none of its modes contributes “winning” to the driver that crosses the finishing line first. For example, in Countdown, teams have to keep a timer from reaching zero. By reaching checkpoints in time teams can somewhat keep the timer in check, but if it does strike zero, then the other team is awarded a point.
Onrush is the racing game for those who don’t enjoy traditional racing games that demands players cross the finish line first. It includes very different modes and win mechanics that make it an engaging and fun experience. Players can enjoy a total of four modes in two teams of six players per side.
