Recently, Sony finally launched the PSN ID change feature and the first change is free for everyone. Sure, it has been a long time coming, but it is great for those PS4 gamers who hastily created a username and was stuck using it for years and years. With the ability to change your PSN ID also comes another feature of sorts. Instead of banning offensive PSN usernames, these will now be automatically changed to a temporary one by Sony.
This new feature allows users to change their offensive PSN usernames to something more appropriate without losing their account and without paying for it. Everyone makes mistakes and this is a great way for Sony to help gamers rectify their mistakes. Those who used the PSN ID change feature to change their username into something offensive will also get a chance to change it back instead of getting banned.
Sony explains on their PSN support page that:
Changing back to your previous online ID is free and should resolve most issues. However, changing back to your previous online ID may not fix all issues (for example, you may not recover all, or any, loss of content, progress, and functionality). We recommend that if you want to change back to a previous online ID, do so as soon as possible, because it may affect content, game progress, and functionality associated with your new online ID.
Both instances when this might occur are also detailed on the support page, which you can read below.
I changed my online ID and then it was changed to Tempxxxxxx
Your new online ID has been found to be in breach of the PSN Terms of Service. If you find that you are having issues, such as lost progress or hidden trophies, you can revert to your previous online ID, as long as it does not breach PSN Terms of Service. To find the correct contact number for an online ID revert, please type “revert online ID” into the search bar here.
My original online ID was changed to Tempxxxxxx
Your original online ID has been reported as inappropriate. This type of online ID change cannot be reverted. You can change your online ID from Tempxxxxxx by following the guide below. If you find that you are having data-loss issues, please contact us. To find the correct contact number, please type “revert online ID” into the search bar here.
