Disney has big plans for the Star Wars galaxy. The company has announced that it is planning on releasing three new Star Wars movies in the future. Disney also announced when fans of the popular franchise can be expecting to see the new Star Wars movies hit the cinemas.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to hit cinemas on 20 December of this year. After that, fans of the popular franchise will have to wait for three years before seeing any new Star Wars movies.
The first new Star Wars movie planned after this year’s The Rise of Skywalker is only planned to be released on 16 December 2022. Two other movies are in the works for the franchise too. These two new Star Wars movies are set to be released in December 2024 and December 2026.
Disney didn’t reveal any details surrounding titles or plot details for the upcoming Star Wars movies, which are set to be released after The Rise of Skywalker concludes the Skywalker storyline. The franchise was started all the way back in 1977, when Star Wars: A New Hope burst into cinemas. Disney bought the Lucasfilm franchise, which included rights to the Star Wars galaxy and everything it encompasses back in 2012. Since then Disney has released The Force Awakens, which is one of the few movies in history to have made over $2 billion,. as well as The Last Jedi, Solo, and Rogue One.
Disney is enjoying huge success at the moment, with Avengers: Endgame dominating the box office and turning previous records to dust. It’s poised to become the highest grossing movie of all time, having already surpassed the $2 billion mark after only having been out for a few weeks now.
