Fortnite’s Battle Royale Mode Racks Up 1 Million Players on Launch Day

Fortnite's battle royale

Despite the controversy surrounding Fortnite’s battle royale mode the game racked up a staggering one million players on the mode’s launch day. The developer, Epic Games, announced yesterday via Twitter.

Over 1 million players have partied on the Battle Bus during the first day of Battle Royale! Thank you and party on!

PlayerUnknown’s Battleground developer, Bluehole, even threatened that they might take “further action” against Epic Games because they believe “Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known.” Be that as it may, players don’t seem to mind and they are flocking to Fortnite to try the battle royale mode.

According to the latest Steam stats, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground last clocked in 1,451,925 concurrent players, so Fortnite isn’t that far behind when it comes to popularity, and that on launch day for the mode. It also helps that Fortnite is currently free-to-play, whereas PlayerUnknown’s Battleground is not. Secondly, one has to keep in mind that PlayerUnknown’s Battleground has yet to launch on a console, while Fortnite is already available to play on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with cross-play between PC and PS4 (and console cross-play proved to be possible).

Comparisons between the two games aside, it’s good for gaming that there is more than one game that offers a specific mode to players. We can have both Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and both can be successful. There are enough differences between the two games to each offer a unique experience.

If you haven’t yet jumped on the bus, then catch a ride for free today. Entry guaranteed here.
