Prince Harry Calls for a Fortnite Ban, Saying it’s “Created to Addict”

Fortnite Ban

The Duke of Sussex didn’t hold back when recently voicing his opinion about the impacts of social media and gaming. More specifically, Prince Harry called for a Fortnite ban saying the popular battle royale game was “created to addict”. His call on a Fortnite ban came during the Gaming Bafta Awards, which took place in London, yesterday evening.

Prince Harry joins a number of notable people who have raised concerns about the addictive nature of gaming. Recently the manager of Southampton Football Club, Ralph Hasenhüttl, also warned about the addictive nature of video games.

Defending his stance on a Fortnite ban, Prince Harry has questioned the benefits of allowing the game to be played in your home, as he believes that the game has the power to break down families by causing addiction, especially in kids. According to the young royal, who is expecting his first child very soon:

[Fortnite] shouldn’t be allowed. Where is the benefit of having it in your household?

It’s created to addict, an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It’s so irresponsible.

It’s like waiting for the damage to be done and kids turning up on your doorsteps and families being broken down.

He went on to claim that social media is “more addictive than alcohol and drugs“.

Prince Harry’s call for a Fortnite ban comes after the game has been cited as the reason for couples getting divorced in 200 cases in the UK. Also, recently 13 kids were removed from their homes in the UK due to video game addiction. However, not everyone agrees with the young royal’s view on the dangers of gaming, with a Scottish researcher claiming that Fortnite isn’t addictive.
