As we approach the 14 November launch of Fallout 76, more and more information continues to flood in. Today, the B.E.T.A. kicks off on Xbox One and in one week for PC and PS4. While Bethesda has been sharing a tonne of information, even teasing factions recently, I’m still not 100% convinced about the game. One thing that has swayed my opinion about the game is the news that Fallout 76 side content will last you roughly 150 hours at launch.
This news comes from The Official Xbox Magazine (December 2018, issue 170) as reported by WccfTech and there’s reason to be excited. With this tremendous amount of Fallout 76 side content, the game will definitely not have a barren wasteland; something I was concerned about when learning that the game’s map is four times the size of Fallout 4.
Keep in mind that this is just for side content and there is no detail on how long the main quest will be. Even so, 150 hours is a lot. Combine this with post-launch content drops and you have one massive game. For those who love Fallout lore, just think about how many Holotapes and terminals you will be able to access since there will be no NPCs in the game.
The constant threat of being attacked while tackling the Fallout 76 side content or even the main story could be a thrilling experience. That’s according to Bethesda’s Chris Mayer, who explains that:
You play this game 30 hours, 300 hours; sometimes you’ll play in a group, sometimes you’ll focus on certain activities but sometimes you’ll play solo. And those are the times when you’ll have time to delve into the fiction and listen to the holotapes and read all the monitors and really get into the story. But there is more of a tension there, you can’t pause the game to read a terminal. When you’re reading a terminal something could sneak up behind you and eat you. And it often does. The more we’ve play-tested, the more we’ve realised how viable that is, and it supports the idea of how dangerous and how lonely it is out there.
Fallout 76 releases on November 14 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
