Last week, Bethesda released an open letter to fans explaining that with Fallout 76 we’re all embarking on a brand new journey. We’ve had over a decade of glorious single-player adventures, but now, with Fallout 76, the Wasteland transformed into an online-only experience. Bethesda also stated in the letter that “During the B.E.T.A., you will likely see a glorious array of issues; many we know about, and many we don’t.” That line turned out to be prophetic as many PC players are reporting that a Fallout 76 bug deleted their entire beta – all 50GB of data.
The PC beta kicked off last night, and within a few hours, reports started coming in. Bethesda eventually issued a warning, stating that they are investigating an issue with the Fallout 76 client. They advised those affected to allow the download to finish.
The latest news from Bethesda regarding the nasty bug indicates that the issue is still not resolved.
We know some users have been forced to redownload the #Fallout76 B.E.T.A. and not everyone will be able to enjoy the game tonight. To make good, we’ll be extending the B.E.T.A. for everyone on Thursday, November 1, 2pm to 11pm ET.
Thanks for your patience. #ExtendtheBeta

What’s interesting is that some reports say that the files were deleted when users clicked on any button on the client. Others say that just opening the Fallout 76 client caused their game files to disappear and, for some, disaster struck when they clicked on the timer button. Bethesda’s solution so far is to allow the download to finish.
Please note: If you are actively downloading the game on PC, or can see a progress bar in the launcher, please allow it to complete and do not cancel or pause it.
The best thing you should do is to not click on anything or even open the client until Bethesda releases a fix. You can stay up to date with all the Fallout 76 known issues and fixes here.
