Earlier this week, Capcom started teasing something retro and many believed that to be some kind of retro collection of games, or even remasters of some classics from the publisher. Instead, the Capcom Home Arcade mini-console/controller hybrid device has been revealed and it is filled to the brim with nostalgia.
When I first saw Capcom Home Arcade mini-console, I thought it was small, until I realized this device is 74 cm in length. It is, in fact, a full-sized board featuring pair of competition class Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT sticks with 8-way GT-Y directional gates and OBSF buttons. Basically delivering the type of control those professionals use in the Street Fighter world championships and a big step up from what you used to see at Arcade machines, while still retaining that retro feeling.
At the time of writing, no local pricing or availability has been revealed. However, we do know the US price and release date, but you might want to sit down. For this awesome piece of nostalgia-inducing hardware, US gamers will have to fork out $260 when it releases on 25 October. That’s roughly R3700 in a direct Dollar to Rand conversion not factoring in anything else.
The mini-console/controller hybrid also features some modern stuff such as Wi-Fi connectivity for online leaderboards, an HDMI port so you can connect it to your 4K TV, a power connector, an on/off switch and a USB port.
Break some high scores in single player, team up with a friend in co-op multiplayer or destroy them in a head-to-head battle. Then upload your best scores via the Capcom Home Arcade’s onboard WiFi to a Worldwide High Score Leaderboard to see how you match up against other players across the globe.
Then, it also comes with 16 pre-installed classic titles using the files from original arcade ROMs.
- Alien vs Predator
- Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting
- Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
- Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
- Captain Commando
- Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors
- Final Fight
- 1944: The Loop Master
- Armored Warriors
- Capcom Sports Club
- Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness
- Eco Fighters
- Giga Wing
- Mega Man: The Power Battle
Even though the price is high, I would still love nothing more than to get one as those old arcade machines and some of these titles were a big part of my childhood.
