The New Aladdin Trailer Premiers A Blue Will Smith As The Genie

Aladdin trailer

Previously, Will Smith promised fans that he would definitely have blue skin – like Genie from the Aladdin franchise usually does – in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic Arabian tale. But promotional material for the movie didn’t look so promising, showing a not-so-blue Genie. Now, fans finally have the confirmation they used one of their three wishes for – Genie has blue skin in the upcoming movie, which was showcased in the new Aladdin trailer.

The new Aladdin trailer was released during the Annual Grammy Awards, which took place last night. Previous promotional material surrounding the upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin had left fans in the dark regarding the Genie and how Will Smith will appear – that is, will he have blue skin or not.

Now, we finally know. Will Smith does have a blue hue. See for yourself in the new Aladdin trailer, which debuted during the 2019 Grammys, below.

The live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin is directed by the legendary Guy Richie. The movie introduces Mena Massoud as the title character of Aladdin and Naomi Scott will portray the role of Princess Jasmine.

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future

In the new trailer, we’re also given a good look at Jafar (portrayed by Marwan Kenzari) and Aladdin’s pet pal, Abu. We’re assuming Abu, along with the other animal characters like Jafar’s parrot Iago or Jasmine’s Rajah, are CGI, because it’s 2019 and no one wants to see real animals used for entertainment. Especially not after Jon Favreau proved that he could make a whole movie – the 2016 live-action movie, The Jungle Book – without having to use a single animal. It was all done with CGI, so we’re hoping Guy Richie was innovative enough to do the same thing for Aladdin.

The movie is set for release in May 2019.

I love everything pop culture. Disney is my life. I was born in the same year as the Internet. I solemnly swear that I am up to no good. Togepi is my Buddy.
