Netflix Renews The Umbrella Academy For Season 2 and No One is Surprised

The Umbrella Academy Season 2

In a not-so-surprising turn of events, Netflix has announced that the popular Dark Horse Comics adaption, The Umbrella Academy, will be returning for a second season after the massive success of its debut episodes.

Production on The Umbrella Academy season 2 will kick off this winter in Toronto and all seven Umbrella Academy members will be reprising their role as the dysfunctional family slash superheroes with major issues. Netflix revealed that The Umbrella Academy season 2 will release in 10 episodes each being an hour long just like the original season.

Steve Blackman will return as the show’s runner and executive producer but no word yet if Mary J. Blige will be back to reprise her role as the fantastic Cha-Cha.

The original season of The Umbrella Academy followed the story of seven siblings all born on the same day in 1989 by seven different women. A billionaire adopted these superpowered kids and turned them into a crime-fighting group called The Umbrella Academy. A couple of years later, they are more messed up than ever as they reunite to try and sort out their dysfunctional family issues, dance along to a few tunes and save the world from a looming apocalypse.

Netflix hit the jackpot with the show as it was the biggest digital show in the US on debut, increasing demand and even beating Stranger Things. The Umbrella Academy had an average demand expression of 30.77 million while Stranger Things had an average of 28.77 million. The first season ended on a major cliffhanger so we can’t wait to see what happens next.
