New Apex Legends Weapon Introduced, Creators Explain How To Use Mozambique Gun

A new Apex Legends weapon was teased, and then promptly introduced in the game. The new Apex Legends weapon is called the HAVOC Energy Assault Rifle and has some fun functionalities which fans of the new battle royale game from Respawn might dig. The creators also chose this reveal to tackle another Apex Legends weapon which players have been frustrated with, known as the Mozambique gun.

Sean Slayback, Head Weapons Designer for Apex Legends took to Reddit to discuss this new Apex Legends weapon, which has just been unleashed. The team who designed the new Apex Legends weapon took inspiration from Neill Blomkamp’s movie, Elysium, where Matt Damon’s character uses a Chemrail energy rifle to kill enemies on the space station.

The new HAVOC has a default fire mode, which is fully automatic with charge time. When players hold down the trigger before firing, energy rounds start shooting, dealing out high damage, with high velocity and low bullet drop. These elements are meant to compensate for the charge time. There’s also a single fire mode called Charge Beam which charges and releases an automatic blue beam that deals out devastating damage. From your 25-round ammo mag, you get through 5-rounds when using the Charge Beam for the new Apex Legends weapon.

As part of the Reddit Q and A, the question surrounding the Mozambique gun in the game came up. Many players have argued that the gun isn’t great, with one Reddit asking whether there are any plans to make the Mozambique gun better, because “[i]t feels very underwhelming at the moment“.

Mozambique Gun

Sean Slayback replied jokingly that the Respawn team were currently enjoying the memes, but then went on to explain how the Mozambique gun is supposed to work. The gun is based on a brutal way of killing someone, which is referred to as a Mozambican Death. This is where someone is shot three times, twice to the chest and once to the head. As the Mozambique gun in Apex Legends only has a 3-round mag, you’re supposed to use those three bullets to kill your opponent Mozambican Death-style, with Sean Slayback explaining how to get it right:

[R]emember that ADSing chokes the spread down which makes it easier to hit that pattern. 2 to the chest, 1 to the head.

Are you playing Apex Legends and what do you think about the new weapon as well as the Mozambique gun?
