The headline of this article should make millions of Call of Duty fans extremely happy. Infinity Ward seems to be doing a lot right when it comes to the Modern Warfare multiplayer and everything we’ve seen so far about the game in the multiplayer early this month sounds fantastic, from cross-play between all platforms based on peripherals to the in-depth weapon system, no Season Pass, and of course the fast-paced tactical gameplay. Now, we know that there will be Modern Warfare dedicated servers.
Please note: We cannot confirm if there will be South African servers or not. We have no control over this aspect nor do we have any information to share at this point.
It has been confirmed via GameInformer’s August cover story (as reported by Charlie Intel) that the game will have dedicated servers. Dedicated servers for Modern Warfare multiplayer is a very important feature, to say the least, especially for competitive play. Sure, for the past few years, Call of Duty titles did feature dedicated servers, but it is a nice thing to know considering how terrible player-to-player (P2P) multiplayer games can be especially for local players.
The dedicated servers are to “ensure that matches are on better server structure for fans.” However, it remains to be seen what the server tick rate will be at launch. Black Ops 4 had a server tick rate of 20hz, which led to a lot of lag for players. This was later rectified by developer Treyarch as they increased the server tick rate. For those who don’t know, the higher tick rate the better and hopefully, Modern Warfare multiplayer will have dedicated servers with a tick rate of at least 60hz.
Next month during the open beta for the game, we will find out just how well it plays for South Africans. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to release on 25 October for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
