Warner Bros. has released the first Joker trailer, which paints us a picture of what to expect from this clownish criminal. Portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, the first Joker trailer shows how he will look all painted up for the first origin story movie focused on this notorious character that’s always stirring things up in Gotham.
The first Joker trailer was released during this year’s CinemaCon, which took place from 1 to 4 April 2019 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. In it, we’re given a good look at how Joaquin Phoenix will be telling the origin story of the Joker. He is one of a few actors who have portrayed the role, like Jared Leto’s portrayal of the Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad and most notably, the late Heath Ledger who won a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role of the Joker in the 2008 Batman movie, The Dark Knight.
Joaquin Phoenix is definitely going for it in this role, and we see him already portraying a wild range of emotions in this Joker trailer. Based on this first footage shown from the upcoming movie, audiences are in for a wild ride, with Joaquin Phoenix asking in the Joker trailer:
Is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?
We also get a look at some of the supporting cast for the upcoming movie, which includes Zasie Beetz as Sophie Dumond and Robert De Niro as Murray Franklin.
The gritty Gotham feel to the trailer sets the tone for a movie that’s sure to delight, and possibly freak out audiences a little. The picture painted by the trailer shows a man struggling with his own sanity while having to deal with some extreme external forces like being beaten up on a train by two passengers who are freaked out by his appearance and his strange demeanour.
The Joker will splatter on to cinemas on 04 October 2019. Are you excited to go watch it?
