The Spider-Man franchise is having a massive 2018. This year, fans of the Spider-Man universe were treated to a new Spider-Man video game, his appearance in the Civil War and the hugely successful animation movie, Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse. Now, the franchise has gotten some more big news. Jake Gyllenhaal has been confirmed as the next villain in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home movie.
Jake Gyllenhaal took to his newly-created Instagram account to share the news that he will be portraying the role of classic Marvel villain, Mysterio.
Mysterio first appeared in 1964 in The Amazing Spider-Man #13 comic book as Quentin Beck. In the video the actor shared to confirmed the news, he is reading the 1989 comic Amazing Spider-Man #311: The Return of the Man Called Mysterio!. This was also the actor’s official debut on Instagram and the first post he shared, making it a memorable moment. Jake Gyllenhaal will be the first person to portray the character on the big screen and we’re excited to see what the actor will deliver, seeing as he is such a talented actor.
Spider-Man: Far From Home will see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man which he first portrayed in the 2017 movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Like I’ve mentioned, we then saw his character return in this year’s blockbuster, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now, Jake Gyllenhaal joins the Spider-Man universe as a bad guy. Other confirmed stars for the upcoming Spide-Man: Far From Home movie include Micheal Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei and Samuel L. Jackson.
Aside from the news that Jake Gyllenhaal will be joining the movie, we also learned that the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to debut at Brazil Comic-Con during a Sony panel discussion on 08 December 2018.
