Call it blinded by loot boxes or perhaps just delusional but EA has still not caught up with the fact that they pretty much the most hated publisher on the planet. Electronic Arts single handily killed multiple studios, ruined in-game purchases for everyone and delivered Anthem, which needs no introduction.
During a chat with GamesIndustry at E3, Matt Bilbey was discussing EA Originals, an incentive to help indie studios publish games under the EA Games banner.
Matt Bilbey, EVP of strategic growth at Electronic Arts was surprised with the external perception of the company saying
The comment was made in regards to EA Originals where the company is trying to help indie studios grow instead of making “mistakes”. Matt is quite aware of the drama surrounding the game company saying “unfortunately when we make mistakes on games, the world knows about it because it’s of a size and scale.”
Last week EA shocked the world when they stated their loot boxes were “surprise mechanics” and not seen as a pay-to-win system. The more we hear about them, the more delusional they sound.
EA has a lot of work to do later this year with their upcoming titles including FIFA 20 and of course Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which is looking “okay”. The company is also releasing Sea of Solitude this week, one of the games out of the Originals program developed by indie studio Jo-Mei Games.
