Dota 2 ESL One Birmingham – All The Direct-Invite Teams

ESL One Birmingham

Since the upcoming ESL One Birmingham Dota 2 tournament isn’t part of the DPC this year, one might think that it won’t be as exciting as Majors or maybe even Minors. Dota 2 esports fans know that the most important thing for professional teams right now is those DPC points to try and qualify for The International 2019. However, the ESL tournaments have always been a joy to watch with great talent, production and top-tier teams. This will remain the same at ESL One Birmingham 2019 as the direct-invite teams are looking fantastic.

Last year, Virtus.Pro dominated the tournament, taking out OpTic Gaming 3-0 in the grand finals. This year, Virtus.Pro looks to be on top form once again and they could very well become ESL One Birmingham repeat-champions. However, there’s a lot of strong teams participating, such as PSG.LGD, Team Liquid, Secret and more.

Personally, what I am looking forward to the most is seeing EG play OG for the first time with Ana back at OG since The International 2018. Hopefully, we won’t see any shoulder bumps and the players will keep the fighting in-game only. Maybe they should get Puppey as a referee…

Check out all the teams below that received a direct-invite to ESL One Birmingham 2019.

  • Vici Gaming
  • Virtus.pro
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • PSG.LGD
  • Team Liquid
  • OG
  • Evil Geniuses
  • Team Secret

Four teams will still join these eight teams through regional qualifiers, namely the SEA qualifier, the China Qualifier, the NA Qualifier and the Birmingham GG.Bet Invitational. Then, from 28 May until 2 June 2019, 12 teams will fight it out for their share of the $300,000 prize pool. I, for one, simply can’t wait to watch every match of the tournament as just looking at the direct-invite teams, ESL One Birmingham 2019 will be a must watch.
