Battlefield V’s battle royale mode “Firestorm” will launch in March 2019 as part of the live service, Tides of War. EA announced the news last night as part of the Battlefield V roadmap.
Battlefield V launches on November 20 with eight multiplayer maps, eight game modes, and four War Stories. Grand Operations also releases on launch day, with Battlefield V’s live service, Tides of War, kicking off in December. PC players can expect a server tick rate of 60Hz on day one, and console players 30Hz.
Looking at the post-launch roadmap, Battlefield V players can expect months filled with exciting content. The first Tides of War chapter, “Overture” opens roughly two weeks after launch day, which makes it around December 3rd. Overture is a tank-focused map, and to compliment it the final single-player campaign, “The Last Tiger” also releases in early December.
In December, the first ever Battlefield Practice Range launches, as well as vehicle customization.
A seat of learning or just messing around, this area will contain trials to work on your shooting, driving, and flying. Based on the Hamada map, this is an environment that can’t kill you.
Chapter 2, “Lightning Strikes” runs through January to March 2019. Battlefield V’s co-op mode, Combined Arms, also launches during this period. Up to three friends join forces to complete a series of Combat Strike missions across several maps and against AI opponents. A revamped “Rush” mode also joins the battlefield as well as a “more intense” Squad Mode. These two modes are only available in Lightning Strikes.
And finally, in March the much-anticipated Battlefield V battle royale mode, “Firestorm,” makes its debut. It releases alongside the third Tides of War chapter, “Trial By Fire.”
Firestorm elevates the mode by bringing in the best of what Battlefield is known for. Mix a shrinking playing field with trademark Battlefield elements such as team play, powerful vehicles, and destruction, and you get many unique Battlefield moments coming your way.
Firestorm includes the traditional battle royale shrinking battlefield with a ring of fire that slowly closes in on combatants. Unlike other games in the genre, you cannot play it solo, but only as part of a squad. Battlefield V’s battle royale mode consists of a total of 64 combatants of 16 squads each. You also hunt for gear and vehicles, but there are trade-offs for every decision you make. Firestorm will release on the biggest map in franchise history.
The Battlefield V journey doesn’t come to an end after Firestorm and Tides of War. According to the announcement, DICE has “even more experiences” planned.
Battlefield V releases worldwide on November 20 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you’re an EA or Origin Access member, you can start playing as early as November 9.
