Sources are claiming that the tech company is spending “likely” over $500 million to ensure it secures the best games for Apple Arcade. According to the reports, Apple is spending a few million per game for some titles, to guarantee that these gaming titles are hosted on the upcoming service before launched on competitor prescription services.
Once launched, Apple Arcade joins other gaming subscription services like Xbox Games Pass and will be available later this year. No official launch date has been revealed yet since Apple Arcade was announced earlier this year, but once rolled out, it seems Apple is planning on aggressively competing in the video gaming market. During its announcement, Apple did promise that Apple Arcade will be home to more than 100 exclusive titles, which includes a Sonic the Hedgehog game, games from Cartoon Network, Giant Squid, Snowman, Konami, LEGO, and many more.
Apple Arcade will be available as a subscription service for iPad, iPhone, Mac and Apple TV. No announcement has been made yet in terms of pricing, but it will be interesting to see if the reported $500 million investment Apple is making in Apple Arcade will pay off for the company.
As the company continues to develop the service, and secure games for it, more will probably be revealed for the upcoming service set to launch later this year.
