To say that BlizzCon 2018 was a bit of a letdown would be an understatement. Everyone and their cat has probably clicked that dislike button on a Diablo: Immortal video by now and some think Blizzard doesn’t know what gamers want anymore. However, one thing that made me smile from ear-to-ear at BlizzCon was the Warcraft 3 Reforged announcement. Sure, it is not Warcraft 4, but at least it is something to get excited about.
However, most Warcraft fans are probably hoping that Blizzard is silently working on a new Warcraft RTS as well, I mean, it has been 15 years since the release of The Frozen Throne. Turns out, Blizzard has no plans for Warcraft 4 right now.
This news comes from GameSpot, who spoke to Blizzard’s Senior Producer, Pete Stilwell, about the possibility of Warcraft 4. Mr Stilwell replied with the following:
I mean, I wouldn’t rule anything out, but we don’t have any plans around [Warcraft IV] at this point. Getting [Warcraft III: Reforged] right, I think, is our priority first and foremost.
What this means for me is that Blizzard has either not even started work on Warcraft 4, or they are not allowed to share anything. If the former is true, then we will not see Warcraft 4 for a very, very long time. We all know that Blizzard’s “Soon” can take years and years, so if they really don’t have any plans for it right now, please don’t hold your breath.
Truth be told, I am quite excited about Warcraft 3 Reforged. The original game shaped the gamer I am today. It is an absolute classic that needs to be remastered for the new generation. Unlike Diablo: Immortal, it doesn’t feel like a complete cash grab.
