Valve Makes Important Changes to Dota 2’s Treasure Odds

Dota 2's Treasure Odds

Yesterday, Valve announced some very important changes for Dota 2’s treasure odds. It formed part of the Treasure Update that introduces the Treasure of the Carmine Cascade with shiny new item bundles for Ancient Apparition, Ember Spirit, Oracle, Batrider, Visage, Skywrath Mage, and Razor. The treasure also offers the chance to unlock a rare Earthshaker bundle, a very rare Dark Willow bundle, or an extremely rare Nature’s Prophet bundle.

We’ve also taken this opportunity to simplify and rework the way we calculate escalating odds for this treasure and going forward.

The more treasures you open, the higher your chances of unlocking these rare items. And it’s here where Valve is making the change. They are simplifying the way they calculate the escalating odds for opening treasures and disclosing the information to buyers.

You simply click on the escalating odds arrow that appears next to each of the rare, very rare, or extremely rare drops to see the exact odds of receiving them based on how many treasures you’ve already opened. This means you can view the percentages for each drop before you purchase another treasure.

Dota Plus subscribers also get another benefit that allows them to recycle unwanted rewards. If you’ve collected six fragments from the same treasure, it will automatically transform into an extra copy of that treasure and 2000 Dota Plus shards.

Lastly, all Dota 2 players can now shuffle their hero item sets after each match. Just enable the new shuffle icon (located next to the Full Sets loadout) and indicate which hero sets you want to include in the shuffle pool.

Gaming’s loot box controversy has been in the spotlight for almost a year, and company’s are still making changes in how they present it to players. Last month, sixteen global gambling regulators joined forces to address international concern “over blurred lines between gambling and video games.”

I, for one, hope Valve continues tweaking the system to remove treasure purchases as far away from gambling as possible.
