If you have missed the big news this past week, Red Dead Redemption 2’s file size was leaked via a new PS4 Pro console bundle that detailed the storage requirement for the game. According to the new packaging for the console bundle which includes the anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2, the game requires 105GB of storage. The internet went crazy as this is probably the biggest game we have received this generation. Games like Black Ops 3 and The Elder Scrolls Online sit near that file size on my PS4 but this is thanks to many, many DLC and expansion packs that have bloated the install size.
105GB is a lot of space and with Blu-Ray discs only being able to store 25GB to 50GB, this will be an issue for the game, unless it ships on two discs which seem to be the case. According to a leaked promotional advert by GameStop, Red Dead Redemption 2 will arrive on two discs. The ad shows the game box being thicker than the average box which could mean the box will have two discs included inside.
This would be the most obvious solution to the problem given that the PS4 and PS4 Pro does not support BDXL discs which can store up to 100GB. This is just a rumour for now though as Rockstar has yet to reveal the actual storage requirement for the game and whether or not it will ship on two discs.
